Set on the 700 block of North Salina in Syracuse, NY, nestled under a dancewear shop, The Turning Point, and neighboring Biscotti’s Italian Bakery, a creative boutique and small gallery, Craft Chemistry, serendipitous-ly opened its doors in 2009. Craft Chemistry, also known as “C2,” was a consignment shop featuring handmade wares crafted by local artisans from the CNY region and a little beyond. Over the span of 4 years, C2 showcased 80+ vendors on rotation. The space creatively displayed merchandise with a quirky mix of updated antique furniture, thrifted finds, old wooden boxes and drawers, tree branches, pallets boards--a number of odds and ends used for anything then their original purpose. There were two street level storefront windows that were dressed to compliment the current shop theme, often reflecting ‘art + chemistry,’ or a site specific installation created by the featured gallery artist.

Craft Chemistry’s two back rooms were used as a studio space for workshops, making props, or event overflow, and eventually becoming a co-working space. The shop hosted film screenings, poetry readings, maker workshops, dance parties, and especially--many opening receptions for gallery’s wall exhibiting artists.

The closing party in February 2013, was a steamy, dancing thrill one winter-y February night, during a beast snow storm. To cool off, we danced in the snow.
